Description

Teens & Tools is a joint effort of the Lexington Public Library, Martin Luther King Academy, Mayor’s Partners for Youth, and Newton’s Attic. The monthly classes provide at-risk youth a chance to participate in hands-on, creative, and challenging activities related to engineering, physics, and technology. The teens use a variety of tools including woodworking, electronics, robotics, and computers.

Outcomes

The program, which began in January 2013 brings 15-20 teens per month into the library to explore science and technology in a fun, safe, and engaging environment. Through participation in the program, one teen won a scholarship to attend additional Newton’s Attic science classes: www.lexpublib.org.
