Washington, DC - The Urban Libraries Council is proud to announce that media executive and LA County Library Commissioner Janae Cannon has joined its Board of Directors.
“We are delighted to have Janae join our board,” said Brooks Rainwater, President & CEO of the Urban Libraries Council. “From her professional career to her volunteer work, she centers storytelling, mentorship, and community engagement in everything she does.”
“I am incredibly excited to have Janae as a partner,” said Heidi Daniel, Executive Director for King County Library System in Washington state and Chair of ULC’s 2026-27 Board of Directors. “She is joining a strong and growing board, and her unique experience will help power ULC’s work far into the future.”
“It's an honor to serve on the ULC Board as I believe in the transformative power of libraries to foster education, inclusion, and lifelong learning,” said Cannon. “The work ULC does keeps libraries as strong pillars of our democracy and engines of local economic opportunity, and I'm eager to be part of that mission.”
In addition to her service with the LA County Library, Cannon is an experienced content and creative strategy leader, working on marketing campaigns for original, high-profile films and documentaries, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Don't Look Up, Frankenstein, and The Only Girl in the Orchestra, giving her a unique lens on storytelling and audience engagement.
