Transforming Together Marketing Campaign

Wichita Public Library, Kan.

Advocacy & Awareness | 2016

Innovation Synopsis

Challenge/Opportunity

We aimed to challenge people's traditional opinions that libraries are no longer relevant or just about books. Using patrons’ success stories, we wanted to inform people about the new available services and resources, including offering e-books and one-on-one assistance for people's technology needs. The campaign would also support the importance of our role at a time when a vote was expected on the building of a new central library.

Key Elements of Innovation

Utilizing various video broadcast options online, on social media and on the City's television channel, we showed videos of people whose lives had been transformed by our libraries. From inside our library locations as well as through social media, we invited the community to share their own stories. We innovated our outreach by putting librarians at downtown Wichita's new Pop Up Park to provide books, sign people up for library cards and inform them about our e-book collection.

Achieved Outcomes

We expect to expand people's opinions about what the library has to offer as well as positioning ourselves as both a relevant and necessary part of our community. We have seen great growth in followers on our social media channels as well as increased positive comments on those sites and in personal notes sent to the Library.
