Innovation Synopsis

Our focus:

  • A new mission focused on literacy and learning
  • Ambitious community impact goals that align with our community’s needs
  • Growing the library and its role as a change agent through community engagement

Challenge/Opportunity

Our new strategic plan moves beyond the traditional, conservative models of the past. Strategic plan = marketing plan. It’s about engagement and communication. Our library is evolving into a learning/literacy organization, committed to engaging readers, helping our customers live their best lives, and preparing children to be ready for kindergarten. These goals have driven the development of a tagline and branded look that inspires exploration, reading and life-long learning.


Key Elements of Innovation

It sounds simple, but it took nine months to boil it down to: What do people say about us when we’re not in the room? Our team brainstormed 100 words that reflect the values of library users. “Curiosity” quickly rose to the top because it’s at the heart of reading and learning. Our tagline, Stay Curious has a call to action that entices people to repeat what has become our unique selling proposition.


Achieved Outcomes

Stay Curious is a fresh exciting brand with an energetic hand-lettered logo, bright colors and a variety of strong images peeking into the frame. The campaign launched in January and is already seeing results. The messaging has increased engagement via social media and has inspired staff to satisfy their own curiosity while sparking it for customers. We know it’s working. Customers are greeting library staff by repeating the tagline: “Stay Curious!”
