Key Elements of Innovation

The Mountain of Authors event is a community program that provides an opportunity for the public to meet local authors, learn more about the craft of writing, and listen to award-winning author presentations. This program also gives local authors the opportunity to promote and sell their books, whether they are self-published or traditionally published.

The format of the event has changed slightly each year, but we generally have two to three panels of local authors, publishers and editors that speak on a variety of topics. We also have an additional 15+ local authors that attend the program, meet the public, and sell their books. The day is capped off by our keynote speaker address, followed by a reception and book signing. The Mountain of Authors program has been advertised via local newspapers, radio stations, bookstores, regional libraries, online community calendars, various websites and blogs (including those of participating authors), and the Library's cable channel.

The 2010 program will include a panel of speakers discussing how to get your first book published, and a panel of genre fiction authors discussing their craft and sharing tips and tricks to becoming an author.

The Mountain of Authors event has been growing each year, and the 2009 program drew about 120 people for each of the three portions of the day.

Achieved Outcomes

Throughout the 4 years of the programs’ existence, we have had the honor of having many well-known and award-winning authors, illustrators, publishers, agents and editors give presentations on our panels. Our keynote speakers have included such notable authors as Margaret Coel, Beverly Lewis, and Sandra Dallas. Space limits author participation to 15 (reached each year) and audience maxed at 120 to 150 per session.
