High-Profile Events: Connecting with New Audiences

Regina Public Library, Saskatchewan

Advocacy & Awareness | 2017

Innovation Synopsis

Regina Public Library has radically renewed its approach to community engagement. By embracing bold ideas and dedicating designated resources to creating high-profile events, we are connecting with new audiences and partners. This has revived the profile of the library as a dynamic hub of literacy, learning, curiosity and new ideas.

Challenge/Opportunity

Regina is a small city with harsh weather, a strong sense of community and deep family connections. Our perpetual challenge is persuading the community that the library adds value beyond collections. We offer innovative stimulating and fun programs that matter to the citizens we serve. Through high-profile events we provide a space in which people connect, with new ideas and each other. Beyond books, we are a community of discovery and learning.

Key Elements of Innovation

RPL set out to reach new audiences by offering high-profile events like TEDxRPLCentralLibrary, International Women’s Day, International Literacy Day, Vital Conversations and Small Business Fairs, that appeal to specific interests. To reach our audience, we leveraged traditional media and social media. We partnered with businesses and community organizations, forging strong relationships and connecting the library to new users. We promoted the library as a dynamic, innovative and ambitious organization, determined to make a difference.
