EPFL’s Inaugural DEI Public-Facing Web Page

Enoch Pratt Free Library, Md.

Anti-Racism, Digital Equity and Inclusion | 2020

Innovation Synopsis

In June 2020, EPFL stood up its first public-facing web page dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion tasked to engage customers and employees with scholarship, services, activities and conversations for a changing world that embraces anti-racism specifically and the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Challenge/Opportunity

Beyond services and programs was a desire to bolster institutional credibility amongst our employees, communities and customers. The web page is a dedicated space to inform the public, potential applicants and employees of our institutional commitment to anti-racism and that DEI is a part of our core values. The new web page provides a fresh opportunity to publicly demonstrate how DEI is integrated into the business goals and delivery of EPFL services and positions EPFL as a provider of anti-racism scholarship and activities.

Key Elements of Innovation

The new web page houses DEI Council-developed, age-specific, anti-racism and DEI-centered scholarship, services and activities. Organization-wide anti-racist and DEI-oriented activities and services are electronically tagged, collected and presented in this central space offering easy-to-find access for employees and customers. It further holds us publicly accountable for our values: EPFL’s Statement on Equity, DEI commitment and anti-racism statements from the Board Chair, CEO and CHRO and the BLM Supporting Statement.

Achieved Outcomes

It is a hub of information, services, scholarship and activities for diverse employees, communities and customers. We have a community partnership dedicated to moving white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for racial and social justice through anti-racist study, family discussion and direct action events. We have a partnership with an African-American museum to engage Black teens in anti-racism and culturally affirming activities. Success will be measured by partner, customer and employee surveys.
