COVID-19 Small Business & Nonprofit Resource Guide

Greensboro Public Library

Workforce and Economic Development | 2021

Innovation Synopsis

We developed a guide to resources for small businesses and nonprofits, especially those hit the hardest by the pandemic and the economic downturn that followed.

Challenge/Opportunity

When Greensboro’s governing officials expressed concern about the ability of small businesses to thrive during the pandemic, Greensboro Public Library staff put together a resource guide that offers local, state and federal resources for small businesses and nonprofits.

Key Elements of Innovation

Initially distributed by email to the business community, the COVID-19 Small Business & Nonprofit Resource Guide has become an essential resource to more than 130 small businesses and nonprofits. The Guide includes resources to help Greensboro’s business and nonprofit community obtain federal funding and learn how to navigate this difficult time. Continuously updated as new sources arise, the Guide has become so much a part of Greensboro’s pandemic response that it has now been added to City Council’s weekly briefing.

Achieved Outcomes

The Guide has become an essential resource to over 130 small business and non-profits. By leading on this, the library has made a meaningful impact on the local economy. Since its release, the library has received referrals from other organizations in the area leading to new partnership opportunities. The transformational nature of the Guide demonstrates the importance of the library to the community especially as we continue to respond to the on-going crises brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
