Complete Career Services with One-Stop Centers

Las Vegas-Clark County Library District

Workforce and Economic Development | 2021

Innovation Synopsis

LVCCLD partnered with Southern Nevada’s local workforce development board to incorporate One-Stop Career Centers into five library branches, providing free assistance for job skills assessment, training, readiness and connections to employers. The partnership expands existing WIOA federal funding to provide greater access to educational resources.

Challenge/Opportunity

A priority of the LVCCLD strategic plan is business & career success. With record-high unemployment numbers due to COVID-19, the challenge is even greater. Our partnership with Workforce Connections provides one-on-one job seeking assistance, bridges the digital divide with computer access and can provide financial aid. It has allowed us to expand/improve career services, better prepare locals to reenter the workforce and meet the demands of 21st-century jobs that require high-level tech and problem-solving skills.

Key Elements of Innovation

This model bolsters the library’s career services and reduces the need for more library staffing and financial investment. It also follows Governor Sisolak’s direction to make job-seeker services convenient, accessible and integrated, enabling them to get a wide range of assistance under one roof, regardless of qualifications or funding. This model has led to 16 additional centers from nine community stakeholders across the county, dramatically expanding accessibility to job training and other resources for residents.
