Key Elements of Innovation
To create a BPL/BYF internship after-school program with the Boston Youth Fund. Qualified teens gain valuable work experience in neighborhood branches at the Boston Public Library.
Achieved Outcomes
The BPL engaged 24 teens in 22 BPL locations. BPL site supervisors and managers recruited and trained teens. Training included orientation and an introduction to library services. Caring and supportive staff played a supportive role developing BPL/BYF Interns at neighborhood branches. This program provided a work experience that bridges teens through library resources and established community connections across all neighborhoods.
