Anythink World
Anythink Libraries
Innovation Synopsis
Anythink World is a custom metaverse platform, designed to be a virtual expansion of the Anythink library system. It was created to provide Adams County residents with another option to engage with library services through new technologies that complement our existing offerings. By embracing these new digital tools and addressing the evolving ways people interact online, Anythink both meets and anticipates community needs while bridging the digital divide to continue fostering a dynamic, inclusive library experience.
Challenge/Opportunity
Research shows there are over 400 million active users dwelling on the Metaverse. 51% of the global users are 13 years old and under. Whether they are young children playing Roblox or adults playing other multiplayer games, people around the world are connecting online in these spaces. Another study also found that for children between the ages of seven and 18, playing online enabled them to be social, enjoy the company of others, and develop confidence. Anythink World was designed to help people break out of the "Zoom box" and establishes new, dynamic ways for them to meet and connect.
- Anythink World is a series of online spaces and worlds that offer customers unique experiences, learning opportunities, and the ability for people to connect.
Key Elements of Innovation
Anythink World provides a space in the metaverse dedicated to education, community, and creativity - not the microtransactions or violence sometimes attributed to online gaming. It also provides an opportunity to fill a digital knowledge gap and support technology literacy. By providing dynamic content and events in the metaverse, people who live in Adams County who may not typically have access to the library and its in-person offerings can participate more in Anythink experiences. The platform is accessible through a browser and mobile devices - no app download required.
We partnered with game designers, educational leaders, Unreal Engine engineers, Pixel Streaming tech, and more to make this successful. Anythink World has provided months of free programming ranging from social clubs all the way to community wide events. From chess club and learning Spanish, making Woobles together online, and hosting keynote speakers and even ballet, AW offers multiple educational opportunities.
