My Neighborhood Library Video Campaign

Tulsa City-County Library, Okla.

Democracy | 2019

Innovation Synopsis

The My Neighborhood Library video was created to inform Tulsa County residents of the amazing things they could do at their neighborhood library by utilizing the free resources, materials and services they get with their library card.

Challenge/Opportunity

In 2016, TCCL opened it's newly renovated downtown Central Library. The new building and services offered are incredibly popular and over 1,000 people visit Central Library each week. However, TCCL is made up of 23 other library locations spread out throughout Tulsa County and in nine different cities as well. So, after Central's grand reopening, we turned our attention to our community library locations to show our customers that Central isn't the only place to experience all the amazing things the library offers.

Key Elements of Innovation

We built this campaign on very little budget and lots of re-purposed video footage. We also made the campaign into two pieces to be used in different ways that complimented each other. The first video was a longer 1:30 piece that fully showcased interviews from our customers about ways they use the library. This video was used for outreach events and shared online. The second campaign piece consisted of three, 30 second videos cut from the original and aired on local TV networks as well as social media.

Achieved Outcomes

We measured three main outcomes. First, increased traffic numbers at our communication locations, 11 of which saw an increase during the campaign. Second, we explored the increase in awareness for our programs featured in the video and saw an increase in usage of these services. Third, we wanted to provide an outreach tool for our teams. So far this video has been showed at more than 100 outreach events.
