ULC Releases New Leadership Brief on Libraries Expanding Summer Opportunities

July 13th, 2016

National Summer Learning Day kicks off tomorrow and what better way to celebrate than with a new ULC Leadership Brief on summer learning!

ULC is proud to release Libraries Expanding Summer Opportunities, a short brief that focuses on how public libraries are expanding their roles as summer learning leaders. This publication builds on findings from the Accelerate Summer strategic partnership between ULC and the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The brief provides models of library summer learning that emerged from the Accelerate Summer research, examples of successful programs, and five action strategies to help libraries adopt a summer learning approach.

Libraries Expanding Summer Opportunities highlights successful summer learning initiatives led by ULC members Saint Paul Public Library, Broward County Library, Ottawa Public Library, Chicago Public Library, Fort Worth Library, New Haven Free Public Library, District of Columbia Public Library, New York Public Library, and the Free Library of Philadelphia.

For more information on diverse public library summer learning programs that advance educational outcomes for youth, be sure to also read ULC's new comprehensive report, Public Libraries and Effective Summer Learning: Opportunities for Assessment.
