Youth Involvement

"We have a youth summit. Many of the goals in the plans we have flow from youth."

Washington, D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams

"Kids from public and private schools come together and give suggestions and we respond. These kids come up with some great ideas. They are very valuable assets to our community.  They wanted skate parks. We’re building skate parks. You should see the swarms of kids out there. These kids have found a place and they know they are an important part of our community."

Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson

"The Boston Bar Association has a program to bring young people from our Boston Public Schools into the law firms of our city. They started off with 42 youngsters and now, this summer they are up to 72 youngsters to be involved in those firms. That’s a great experience for those young people.  That’s an education right there, to be with those young people and to have those young people rubbing elbows with some of the best minds in our city."

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino

"We need to think about after school time as a time for enrichment. We have a number of emerging programs that are looking at out of school time as a time for engagement."
