The YOUmedia On-the-Go program is designed to address a major challenge of YOUmedia Miami: how to provide technology training and hardware access to teens who are either unaware of, or simply unable to visit, either of the YOUmedia Miami centers. By coordinating with other libraries in MDPLS, the YOUmedia team has been able to expand the reach of YOUmedia by offering the same technology workshops, such as video production and graphic design, and hands-on hardware experiences to young adults throughout all areas of Miami-Dade County at times and locations that allow greater participation in the program.

Key elements of the YOUmedia On-the-Go program include providing facilitators, typically college-aged mentors engaged in digital arts programs, to provide hands-on instruction on various technologies, including video cameras, synthesizers, drawing tablets, and other production equipment. Although having dedicated "destination" tech spaces has huge benefits for the community, YOUmedia On-the-Go offers teens – many of whom simply don’t have the means to travel outside of their immediate neighborhood – the opportunity to learn skills in digital media, learn about YOUmedia Miami, and decide if pursuing more instruction in the field, whether from YOUmedia Miami or through higher education, is for them.

YOUmedia On-the-Go has been a success for MDPLS and its patrons with over 150 teen participants gaining access to technology training in video production and sound design over the last six months. The program has increased both teen and parent awareness of YOUmedia Miami and resulted in new membership from YOUmedia On-the-Go teen participants who wanted more in depth training and access to higher-end equipment.
