ULC Member Libraries Receive National Medal at White House Ceremony
In a White House ceremony held earlier today, First Lady Michelle Obama presented the Brooklyn Public Library and Madison Public Library with the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Service on behalf of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
The National Medal is the nation's highest honor given to museums and libraries and recognizes these two ULC member libraries for their innovative service and community impact. IMLS recognized Madison Public Library, the first Wisconsin library to receive the award, for their strong community connections and commitment to promoting civic engagement, literacy and education. Brooklyn Public Library was honored for the work of their Outreach Services deparment, including programs for reaching homebound patrons and citizenship classes for new Americans.
