Innovation Synopsis

Challenge/Opportunity

Doing Book Talks is a great way to get teens interested in books but it isn’t easy to get into schools or gather teens at the library to do traditional book talks. We wanted to have a way to reach the largest number of teens possible in a format that was comfortable and fun for them.

Key Elements of Innovation

The Super Speedy Book Spot is a 30 second book talk presented by Teen Services Coordinator, Brijin Boddy, recorded in front of a green screen. A background and timer are added in post-production. The timer counts down from 30, so you know the book talk is only 30 seconds!

The Super Speedy Book Spot enables CVL to share recommended teen titles in a format that is appreciated by teens, and put this information in a location (online) where teens will see it. In other words, it allows us to meet them where they are.

Achieved Outcomes

The completed videos are uploaded to CVL’s YouTube Channel, shared via our Twitter account and are accessible via the Teen Page of our website.
