Baltimore County Public Library

Project: The ELI team will work to establish a new collaborative model for the Library's services to teens, including planning, collection design, resources, programs and web content.

 

Buffalo and Erie County Public Library

Fellow: Doreen Woods, Process Improvement Study Coordinator
Sponsor: Mary Jean Jakubowski, Assistant Deputy Director, Human Resources

Project: The ELI team will redefine and activate new mobile library operations in the 1000-square-mile region by reallocating resources, reconfiguring staff, soliciting advisory group input, and developing a public awareness campaign for these services.

 

East Baton Rouge Parish Library

Fellow: Patricia Parker Husband, Assistant to Computer Division Head
Sponsor: Trudy Seidel Jaques, Assistant Library Director

Project: The ELI team seeks to transform reference services throughout the EBRPL system by improving staff orientation and training, as well as service practices.

 

Free Library of Philadelphia

Fellow: Sandra Miller, Librarian/After-School Program Manager
Sponsor: Kevin Vaughn, Associate Director

Project: The ELI team will coordinate a library-based financial literacy services campaign in conjunction with Mayor John Street's "Neighborhood Transformation Initiative," including the development of materials, partnerships, funding, public awareness and programs.

 

King County Library System

Fellow: Georgia Lomax, Managing Librarian
Sponsor: Linda Glenicki, Business Manager

Project: The KCLS ELI team will lead a review of "good customer service" and will apply the lessons learned to create a new customer service manual, revise the public service training program, and implement a model for evaluation and continuous program improvement in order to provide consistent top quality service to the public.

 

Las Vegas-Clark County Library District

Fellow: Salvador Avila, Community Outreach Librarian
Sponsor: Daniel Walters, Executive Director

Project: The ELI team will launch a project to establish a new library in an exclusively Latino neighborhood, including site identification and purchase, establishing and building political and community support, securing funding, and designing customer service strategies.

 

Multnomah County Library

Fellow: Vailey Oehlke, School Corps Librarian
Sponsor: Ruth Metz, Deputy Director

Project: The ELI team will take the Library's services to students and educators from good to excellent by examining and reorganizing existing services, considering recommendations made by the school services planning project, working with students and educators to determine their needs, and determining the next viable model for serving those needs in a static budget future.

 

Nashville Public Library

Fellow: Elyse Adler, Research and Special Projects Administrator
Sponsor: Donna Nicely, Director

Project: In pursuit of Mayor Bill Purcell's goal to improve children's preparedness for school, the ELI team will design and implement improvements to NPL's children's programming and education services, develop partnerships with public schools, and deepen relationships with the community.

 

New York Public Library

Fellow: Jane Fisher, Coordinator, Officer of Information Services
Sponsor: Mary K. Conwell, Senior Vice-President and Director, Branch Libraries

Project: Within the context of significant reductions in city funding, this ELI team will develop a program to enhance the abilities of Branch Librarians to develop sustained relationships with their communities, gather and understand data on neighborhood demographics, demonstrate the community importance of libraries, evaluate technology needs of neighborhoods, and design localized library homepages.

 

Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County

Fellow: Melanie Huggins, Youth Services Director
Sponsor: Bob Cannon, Executive Director

Project: The ELI team will improve the community's awareness of and access to the library as an arts and cultural program provider for youth by increasing the understanding of and partnerships with local cultural organizations, transforming staff skill-sets, and creating a way for visitors to other cultural organizations to get a library card instantly.

 

San Jose Public Library

Fellow: David Genesy, Innovative Branch Services Manager

Project: The ELI team will lead the implementation of a new Innovative Branch Service Model at all branch libraries that will change recruiting strategies, staff training and institutional culture, promote shared leadership, and improve institutional flexibility.

 

St. Paul Public Library

Fellow: Gwen Dixon, Diversity Coordinator
Sponsor: Deborah Willms, Training and Organizational Development Coordinator

Project: The ELI team will create a teaching laboratory for educating new librarians at SPPL, in partnership with the College of St. Catherine. They will develop curriculum, a recruitment strategy, an "environment for creativity and innovation," and certification programs for para-professional staff.
