The Urban Libraries Council (ULC) elected three officers and eleven Board members during its annual meeting held June 27 in New Orleans.
Elected to office for one-year terms are Chair Susan Kent, City Librarian, Los Angeles Public Library; Vice Chair/Chair Elect Elliot Shelkrot, President and Director, Free library of Philadelphia; and Secretary/Treasurer Betty Jane Narver, President of the Board of Trustees, Seattle Public Library and Director of the Institute for Public Policy Management, University of Washington.
The ULC Board is comprised of library directors, library trustees, and public members. Elected again to the ULC Board for two-year terms in director positions are Dan Bradbury, Director, Kansas City Public Library, and Toni Garvey, City Librarian, Phoenix Public Library. New to the Board and elected for a one-year term to fill a vacancy is Donna Nicely, Director, Public Library of Nashville & Davidson County.
Re-elected to the Board for two-year terms in trustee positions are Frances Hunter, Trustee, Cleveland Public Library; Marilyn Jackson, Trustee, Hennepin County (MN) Library; and Narver. Newly elected to the Board for two-year terms in trustee positions are Donald Estes, Trustee, Jefferson County (CO) Public Library; Virginia McCurdy, Trustee, DeKalb County (GA) Public Library; Pamela Seigle, Trustee, Boston Public Library; and Marcia Steinhardt, Trustee, Brooklyn Public Library.
Also elected to the Board for a two-year term in a public member position is Diane Frankel Program Director, Children, Youth and families, the Irvine Foundation. Frankel previously served as Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Founded in 1971, the Urban Libraries Council offers research, consulting, advocacy, training and support services to its members. Membership is open t libraries serving populations of 50,000 or more in the U.S. Standard Metropolitan Statistical areas and to library vendors. |
