Net Neutrality is a hot-button issue on the internet landscape. The Oregon Library Association is awarding its annual Intellectual Freedom Champion of the Year Award to OR Senator Ron Wyden for his work on many fronts, including privacy and net neutrality.
The awards program, held at Multnomah County Library on May 28, featured a panel discussion on the implications of net neutrality that included Senator Wyden, MCL Director, Vailey Oehlke, ULC Executive Board Member Michael Sherrod and others. The discussion focused on the urgent public policy issues that arise from this debate and the critical role that libraries play as the gateway to digital access for all.
We expect the event will be videotaped and will provide a link as soon as possible, along with an overview of net neutrality and its implications for public libraries.
