Museum Pass Program
Cleveland Public Library, Ohio
Innovation Synopsis
The Museum Pass Program is a partnership between the Cleveland Public Library and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History that allows Library patrons to check out a free family pass to the Museum with their Library Card.
Challenge/Opportunity
The Museum Pass program enables Library patron’s free access to an iconic local cultural institution. In a City where 54 percent of children live in poverty, parents are unlikely to be able to afford the cost for the entire family to spend a day at a local museum. Each pass is good for a one-time general admission for a family of six (up to two adults and four children). This program has been a great way for friends and families to enjoy education, cultural enrichment and fun.
Key Elements of Innovation
For the Library, this program is one more benefit we are able to offer our patrons. It offers them an enriching cultural experience and a way to spend time together. Externally, it offers both the Library and the Museum the ability to cross-promote our programs.
Achieved Outcomes
In 2015, 556 passes were redeemed resulting in over 2,000 additional people attending the History Museum. Each pass redeemed averaged 3.5 people who attended the Museum. The number of passes redeemed is still increasing each month. May 2016 was our biggest month ever, with 78 passes redeemed bringing in a total of 292 guests.
