Learning Labs Update: On Tour with Lady Gaga
The Learning Labs Initiative has joined with Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation to bring exciting opportunities for youth to connect with each other, build skills and create digital media around topics such as bullying, equality and self-acceptance.
The Born Brave Bus Tour is an interactive tailgate experience for youth, ages 13-25, that will follow Lady Gaga's U.S tour beginning mid-January through March 2013. Youth will gather and celebrate their individuality in a safe arena where everyone is encouraged to be the person they were born to be. The Born Brave Bus Tour will allow youth to get more deeply involved in Lady Gaga's Born This Way movement, while also connecting them with local resources in their communities in an effort to inspire bravery and promote self-acceptance. In each city, the bus will display photographs, video and other media created by youth working in libraries, museums and other community organizations.
ULC members such as the St. Paul Public Library, MN; Nashville Public Library, TN; Free Library of Philadelphia, PA; Miami-Dade Public Library System, FL; Kansas City Public Library, MO; and Chicago Public Library, IL, are creating unique and relevant opportunities for youth to participate before, during and after the Born Brave Bus Tour is in each city. On-site partners in the cities include Campus Pride, GLSEN, the National Association of School Psychologists, the National Council for Behavioral Health, MENTOR, Mentoring USA, The Trevor Project and Youth Service America.
Another great example of how ULC member libraries are creating community around new models for learning and innovative experiences for our young adults!
