Ameritech Library Services has granted a total of $30,000 to the Urban Libraries Council (ULC) to plan and offer a New Leaders Conference in the fall of 2000. Conference design and planning will be supported by a $15,000 grant in 1999, while an additional $15,000 will support the actual conference.
“We are delighted that Ameritech Library Services is working in partnership with ULC to identify and support new leaders in America’s urban public libraries,” said Joey Rodger, ULC President. “As the pace of change in the world of libraries increases at the same time our profession is graying, it is vital that we nurture the development of dynamic leadership.”
Longtime sponsor of the Snowbird Leadership Institute, Ameritech is continuing its investment in the development of library leadership. The New Leaders Conference will be directed at emerging leaders at ULC member libraries around the country. Planning for the conference is being coordinated by ULC’s Capacity Building Working Group, chaired by Laura Isenstein, Director of the Public Library of Des Moines.
The New Leaders Conference will build on ULC’s excellent record of symposia and conferences for its member libraries’ directors, trustees and staff. ULC annually presents a Leadership Symposium in May, as well as periodically offering events such as the Human Resources Summit for member libraries.
Founded in 1971, the Urban Libraries Council offers advocacy, consulting, research, training and support services to its members. Membership is open to libraries serving populations of 50,000 or more in U.S. Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas and to library vendors. |
