Organizations may wish to affiliate with the Urban Libraries Council, either to show their support for our organization or because they share interests and concerns with us. Associate Membership has been established with the following provisions:
Associate Membership is open to individual consultants, library systems or consortia*, state libraries, state library associations, and other organizations that support the goals of ULC. This last category is subject to approval by the ULC President.
*A library system is defined as a network or consortia of member libraries from a variety of governmental jurisdictions served by a single administrative unit. Associate Membership benefits for library systems accrue solely to the administrative offices of these organizations, not to the individual member libraries.
$500.00 per year
ULC staff will assure that Associate Members are automatically added to the ULC Exchange mailing list; that they receive one copy at no charge of Frequent Fast Facts publications; and that they receive invitations to attend the Annual Leadership Breakfast and the Midwinter Membership Reception.
We believe that the clarification of expectations serves us all well and for that reason the following guidelines are offered for participation as an Associate Member:
- Associate Members should be aware that behaviors that could be reasonably understood to be related to sales of their products and/or services including such things as bringing inordinate numbers of staff to the Annual Leadership Breakfast and/or the Midwinter Membership Reception, or handing out brochures about products or services are discouraged;
- Displaying evidence of the Associate Membership in ULC in any way that could be reasonably construed as an endorsement by ULC including presenting the Associate Membership in ULC as part of web-site content, advertising copy, or any other communication is also discouraged;
- Lists of ULC members will not be sold to Associate Members, nor may the Membership Directory be used for marketing purposes.
ULC staff interprets the policies and directives of the Executive Board in all matters. Associate Members are always invited to initiate conversations with ULC’s President if they are unclear about the guidelines, or if they need to explore the suitability of a flexible interpretation of the guidelines. If staff members are unclear about what might be appropriate Associate Member participation, the Executive Board will be consulted, acting through its Chair and/or a small group of volunteer advisors on Associate Member participation. |
