The library recently provided leadership in the creation of a local campaign centered around the message that “Skokie Welcomes Everyone”. Working in partnership with several community leaders from the Village of Skokie, Skokie Park District, local school districts, and others, we created buttons that proclaim “Skokie Welcomes Everyone” and began sharing them with others throughout the community. We are also in the midst of ordering lawn signs so that residents and business owners can spread the inclusive message across the community. We held an initial informational meeting and invited many community stakeholders, generating even more excitement about the campaign. We have already raised more than $3,000 to go towards supporting this project. The hope is that our community, which is incredibly diverse and the home of many foreign-born people, will feel welcome and encouraged by the message, and that it will bring us all together during this challenging time.
