Type of Initiative: Civic Engagement

Description:

An NPR Listening Gathering is an awesome way to bring together folks from the community for a fun and refreshing social experience that is usually solitary: listening to radio. Wherever you find those audio stories that stoke your curiosity and make you think a little differently about what goes on around you. NPR offers a window into the world through great storytelling.

Each month we focus on different issues that will start a conversation with community members. These conversations will center on all types of topics from politics to race to women’s issues.

We select moderators from the community to lead a conversation following each podcast. Moderators are chosen based on their expertise and knowledge of the topic as well as their involvement in the community.

So far our topics are:

WHEN IT COMES TO POLITICS, FAMILY MATTERS, EXPLORES HOW WE COME TO OUR POLITICAL VIEWS - AND WHY WE HOLD THEM SO CLOSE?

HEAR SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING: NAVIGATING THE WORLD OF RACIAL AWKWARDNESS TOO SWEET, OR TOO SHRILL? THE DOUBLE BIND FOR WOMEN.
