Education, Literacy and Lifelong Learning
Libraries are the center of lifelong learning in local communities. They provide a continuum of programs and services that begin in early childhood. These programs continue through school-age years and young adulthood, eventually helping people through the gateways of higher and continuing education. The ultimate goal of these programs is to provide informal learning activities that continuously enrich people’s lives.
This category recognizes innovations in early childhood learning; after-school and summer learning programs; partnering with schools and school districts; engaging teens and young adults; as well as educational and enrichment programs that promote lifelong learning, including adult/family and English as a Second Language services.

Work Wise: Improving Job Performance and Proficiency
Work Wise is a vocational ESL and literacy program to improve the job performance and proficiency of low-skilled, employed workers. Through a combination of classroom instruction and individual tutoring tailored to the specific industry, participants made gains in their English language skills and improved their proficiency on their jobs.

EPL has created a series of animated videos, which provide engaging and valuable online early literacy experiences to viewers in the community when, where and how they want them. These videos support the five behaviors of early literacy and model best practices for parents and caregivers, while entertaining families.
