ULC Chair Keith Simmons & Urban Player Awardee Lucy McCoyThe 2012 ULC Urban Player Award is Lucy McCoy (pictured here with Immediate Past Chair Keith Simmons), longtime commissioner and champion of Los Angeles Public Library, CA. Lucy’s advocacy for Los Angeles Public Library, which serves the nation’s largest population, spans more than 15 years and culminated in 2011 with the passage of ballot Measure L, which reverses the worst cuts in Los Angeles Public Library’s 140-year history and restores critical hours and services.

The ULC Urban Player Award was established in 2001 to honor civic leader and former chair of ULC’s Executive Board, Betty Jane Narver.

A call for nominations is issued each year in March, and the awardee is announced at ULC’s Annual Forum in June. The winner is selected by a panel of library leaders whose identity remains anonymous.
