2012 ULC Joey Rodger Leadership Recipient

The ULC Joey Rodger Leadership Award in the amount of $5,000 provides a director or senior manager of a ULC member library with an opportunity to strengthen his/her skills through a structured professional development undertaking. The award may be used to attend an established leadership development program or pursue an individualized program that involves working with a leadership development expert/mentor. The award enables its recipients to advance their knowledge and ability to be a high-performance leader in the 21st century with emphasis on these themes:

  • The qualities and characteristics of transformative leadership in the 21st century
  • The risks and rewards of public sector leadership today
  • Developing an organizational culture of leadership, including the stewardship of tomorrow’s leaders
  • Exercising powerful leadership inside the library and outside in the community
  • Leading through stories that demonstrate the impact of libraries on the well-being of people and communities

Awardee Cindy Lombardo & ULC Chair Keith SimmonsThe 2012 recipient of the ULC Joey Rodger Leadership Award is Cindy Lombardo (pictured here with Immediate Past Chair Keith Simmons), Deputy Director and Chief Operations Officer of the Cleveland Public Library, OH. Cindy will utilize the leadership award to attend the Brookings Institution’s Leadership Lab. Brookings is an intensive, five-day residential immersion educational experience that focuses on the core executive topics of team building, problem-solving, partnering, political savvy and public service motivation.

Information about the application process for the ULC Joey Rodger Leadership Award is announced each year in March, and the award is announced at ULC’s Annual Forum in June. The winner is selected by a panel of library leaders whose identity remains anonymous.
